Log of the Brigantine ROMANCE |
Throughout the voyages of the ROMANCE, Mrs. Kimberly continued to observe and write. Her descriptions are vivid. Here, in installments, with permission of the Kimberlys, are their adventures, as written in the "Log of the ROMANCE", a running commentary on their world voyages. We think that this is the first "Log".Log of the ROMANCE #1 |
"GONE SAILING"Sorry, friends, we're not home. ROMANCE is off roaming the world again this time all the way around! It's her fifth major expedition with young people as crew, 20 months of exploring that strange, exotic, beautiful trade wind world known only to sailing ships. The Galapagos, Pitcairn Island, Tahiti, French Oceania, Melanesia, New Guinea, Bali, Singapore, the Indian Ocean, Seychelles, Zanzibar, South Africa, Ascension Island in the South Atlantic, the Amazon River -- and home to the Caribbean. Don't you wish you could join us? We'll be back in the Virgin Islands in the summer of '77 (really not all that long!) and oh -- what sea stories we'll have to tell! About atolls and coral reefs, fire walkers and fuzzy-wuzzys, Balinese dancers, elephants and lion hunts, whales tales, ships and seas and sealing wax. All over a huge pot of Marlinespikes -- in the most beautiful cruising waters we know. Yup. The Virgin Islands. Why else would we come back? We've never found a better place to entertain folks in well over a decade of sailing cruises. The weather's perfect, the sea kindly, the islands and reefs unbelieveably beautiful. It's home to Romance. And a sailing paradise for you. Without going all the way around the world. And sailing a square rigger is a special kind of fun. You're welcome to try your trick at the wheel -- or just relax and leave the navigation to us. Remember, Romance is designed for world cruising, a big plus in sailing comfort and safety -- so you'll never suffer the discomforts of a small boat in a big sea. And because Romance is a big ship, and the guest list has been limited to 17, your cabin will be far larger than on most private yachts. Meals are celebrated, proudly served with candelight and wine. And you don't have to lift a finger. '77 is going to be a gala year for Romance and her friends. Please join us! The office is open now to handle your reservations -- but please don't wait till the last minute. We'd be terribly disappointed if we didn't have room for you. P.S. As supplies are consumed, and space becomes available, we hope to accommodate an additional few to join Romance around the world. Interested? We'll be glad to supply details. If you would like to receive Logs of the Voyage, just tell us! Sincerely, Capt. and Mrs. Arthur Kimberly
