I crewed aboard the Romance in 1969 and 1971. First as ordianary seaman and then as able-bodied seaman. For the wonderful salaries of $2.00 a day and then up to $3.25 daily as an AB. Last Time I heard from the Kimberlys was in 1972 when the skipper sent me a letter offering me a berth to finish the voyage from the Galapagos to San Diego and maybe then back to the V.I's. It still makes me sick to think about having to miss that opportunity. But they were leaving in three days and I had no passport nor way to get there in time. Almost as sick as it was to learn she was scuttled. I had always hoped to make my way back to her sometime.....
