From Pete

The skipper and Mrs. K when I did my four month 'field term' for Beloit College in winter/spring 1974 or 1975. As a green deckhand I wasn't worth much and they treated me accordingly.
By the end, and with some crew turnovers, I was sometimes the 2nd best crew after Robie Price the Mate
(and way above the local islander who was hired and quit within a few days (taking $50 of Robie's money with him).
The short time islander fortunately left a pair of shorts on the ship, which I badly needed to finish my field term,
as all my other clothes were falling to pieces! Un-fortunately, I later found I was hosting 'crabs' in my shorts and 'down there',
but I never wrote back to the skipper to find out if it had just been me or whether the short timer had caused a shipwide infestation.

A rare occasion when the skipper came into the rigging to help the four of us furl the sail.
Apparently Mrs. K had managed to really piss him off, and I could only listen in amazement
as I barely heard him complain to someone with a sentence that began "That old cocksucker....".
Left to right: ? , ? , Skipper, me at age 22 or 23, Robie Price, Mate.

Just a familiar view over the bow. Such as when catting the anchor or working the windlass.
I "wormed, parcelled, and served" either the inner or outer jibboom guy in the photo and once was assigned
to re-safety wire every shackle on the ship.
I don't think it was a punishment and it made me cover about every square inch of the ship.
I remember now the 'dolphin striker'..and maybe a nightengale? Some of that rigging has the same names as the parts of harnesses for a horses neck. Not surprising I guess.
